If you ask a child what they would like to be when they grow up, most do not know. However, Zach Godwin, rising senior at West Henderson High School, knew he wanted to be the President of the United States in first grade after reading a book about World War II “about fifty times.” He decided Franklin D. Roosevelt was the “coolest person ever.” Besides being a politician, his other future career choice is in journalism. Zach has been a part of the Wingspan News  for a year. He hopes to attend UNC Chapel Hill, with UNC Greensboro as his second choice.

This North Carolina native has lived in forty-five states and Canada. “We sold everything we had, bought an R.V. and we lived in that for two years,” says Zach, explaining how he traveled with his family after fourth grade. If he had the choice to go anywhere in the world, Zach would choose Greece, as he has visited Europe twice.

Zach runs the mile event for the track team at West Henderson and is planning to run cross country this upcoming school year. He also loves to write, read the news, and hike.

“Hiking is my favorite thing to do,” he says. In fact, if he had to do one thing everyday for the rest of his life, he would choose to hike.

“If I have hiking and a good internet connection, I’ll be set forever,” he laughs.
